Hello Everyone
Well this class has been and interesting one every lesson has lead up to this final project and hopefully I will pass. I used all the techniques that we have learned throughout this course and they have all come in handy. E-books I'm still getting use to and other websites along this course for research purposes. I have come more familiar with the Long Beach City College Library system online and on site. The reference section has come to be more familiar with me and i can locate almost anything I want to know. So I see how i have no excuse not to find what I need for a research paper topic that I have. Its all new learning but like they say you can teach a old dog new tricks lol.

I wanted to see how composer life influence there works if they do or if it doesn't at all.

Reflections 4
Hello ALL,
Hope everyone has been enjoying this class and looking at my blog see anything new or interesting. This reflection is that I have been noticing that i have been evaluating reference source in a new light. I have been looking for information not about fluff and interesting facts but with more scholar and researchable information. Trying to get use to using all these different resources online different databases are different in trying to find exactly what you want. I love the worldcat that database is awesome i dont need to look from library to library catalog to find one book for a research topic. I just type in the resources i need and it does all the work for you and tells you what resources would be similar to this book to help you along the way. I didnt know there was so many bibliography research databases for free online that you could use I thought you would have to pay to long in. I'm finding that its getting alot more easier to find information for reports and research topics now that im am learning how much usueful databases that are out there now. I look forward to our last week and will miss all the interesting people and conversations and opinions you all had to share in this class I had fun reading them all.

Reflections 3
Hello everyone well good news I am getting use to this class and the homework you are all right is not a lot for a online class if you really think about it. I have learn to manage it with my busy schedule of music classes and work schedule at the library. This week I have been getting to get familiar with online resources they are so helpful I always though the internet wasn't as reliable as books. I always use to do all my research through the library resources of books and reference materials. I like using online resources now its so much more easier and alot more helpful sense they have extra links to other resources dealing with your same topics. Its awesome to expand my resouces for finding information for research papers.

So far so good been getting by with all this homework so much to do during the week for one class but I should have known when I signed up for this class. Learning a lot about how to research and what is a creditable source and whats not. I didn't know there is so many websites out there that could trick you with their facade of a website. There is also a check list to make sure this website is correct to use in a research paper who knew. Plus reference is your best friend you can get so many facts and information for one question with one book its amazing. I didn't know there was so much to learn about the reference section alone. I like to learn more now how to use this resource we have at the library and change it to work for my benefit.

Library Visit Project 1

The library I chose to visit was the library that I see everyday this is my library Angelo M. Iacoboni. It is a L.A. County Public Library one of eighty branches, you probably seen it before driving or passing by on your everyday route to work or school and no known its there. Its easy to miss if your not looking for it ,its right next to the Lakewood civic center across from the lakewood mall.
Its one of the bigger branches reaching almost a quater of the street. You go inside and they try to make it as homy as posisble with lounge chairs and a cute book couch in the coner of the entrance. To the right of the circulation desk is the childrens area made to be fun and inviting with bright colors and big stuffed anamials as through pillows. Story time goes on here once a week for the kids with interactive toys and puppets. Teen center is right across from it with sections separated just for young adults interests i.e. comics, movies, high school fiction novels. Also for the college student study books for AP tests and SATs plus great cubbies to study in.
Next to this area is the adult fiction area separated by author last name and interest mystery and scifi. The Non fiction area takes up most of the library stretching out several stacks with the biographies separate agains the back wall. next to its is the periodical section across the way with the daily newspapers with more lounging areas to read and study. By the periodical section next over is the reference sections now these are for library use only and cant be checked out classified like the non fiction sections only seperate for reference use only.
When you walk right in you will see the audiovisula section with the old tapes and dvd section with forgeing lanuage films as well. Next to that is the new books section off for you own browsing if you want to see what just released. Behind this section is the audiotapes and cds which these are just like books but ones you can listen to instead of sitting down and reading.
They have a holds service that lets you place items on reserve form other eighty libraries we have in our system and it gets sent to the library of your choice to pick up. Also is the interlibrary loans now this you have to pay for but you can request it through out any library that has this title. Also have rental dvds which is cool because they are the newly released titles that just came out you can rent for just two dollars for two days. This service is better then blockbuster its cheaper to rent and you get great movies.
Reference is the best way to go if you tryign to find something in paticular they are on staff librarians who are very knowlwdgeable about the library resources. They can find your book in their library and if they dont have it they can request it for you to get it. Also is the electronic cataologs logged into the county website which tells you every resources they have in their system. Also look up your account there as well if you have any questions what you checked out whats due and request your own books. Its a great tool to use especially to avoid those library fines for late books. Online computers are available here as well with microsoft word for porjects and interent access as well. This seems to be the most popular resources at the library is the interent if its for a hour or for fifteen minutes. Free wifi is also avaliable at all county libraries now.
My favorite part about this library is the freindly staff that are always there to help you if its a book porblem or if its just a printing issue. The rental dvds are the best becasue its the new issues for only two bucks cant get better then that. The atmosphere is also study freindsly great for any college student next big exam. Only downfall is the crying babies form time to time and the routie kids. All in all this is a great public library everyone should check out the nearst one closest to you.

Taking this Library 3 class has been more work then I thought it would be but I'm learning how to mange it. So far though I like taking this course I learned how to make a blog, read e-books, and access online catalogs. I have done plenty of research before two ten pages papers just in high school let alone college. I thought researching always came easy I didn't know there was a unique way to find what you want to get out of a paper. There are so many more resources out there to explore like e-books, microfilm, journals scholarly and non-scholarly. So far this class has been a eye opener to the world of research and using your Library.
